چکیده
The use of advanced sensing devices for concrete and reinforced structures (RCS) is considered a rational approach the assessment repair options scheduling inspection maintenance strategies. immediate benefits are cost reduction reliable prevention unpredictable events. optical fiber sensors (OFS) such purposes has increased considerably in last few years due to their intrinsic advantages. In most OFS, chemical transducer consists immobilized reagents placed region sensor by direct deposition or encapsulation polymeric matrix. choice support matrix impacts directly on performance OFS. two decades, development OFS functionalized with organic–inorganic hybrid (OIH) sol–gel membranes have been reported. Sol–gel route simple method that offers several advantages when compared traditional synthesis processes, allowing obtain versatile materials unique physical properties, particularly valuable design OIH materials. This review will provide an update current state-of-the-art based sol-gel RCS since 2016 until mid-2021. main achievements be discussed. challenges future directions this field also considered, as well limitations monitoring.

Quasidistributed fiber sensor for precast concrete structures monitoring [8421-374]
The prestressing force is transferred to the concrete during the slack period of precast concrete structures fabrication. To contribute to a better understanding of the armor compliant behaviors during the mentioned process, a custom quasidistributed Bragg Grating optical fiber sensor system is designed, fabricated and embedded into a prestressed concrete prismatic beam. The experimental works,...
متن کاملGlass coating for PDMS microfluidic channels by sol-gel methods.
Soft lithography using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) allows one to fabricate complex microfluidic devices easily and at low cost. However, PDMS swells in the presence of many organic solvents significantly degrading the performance of the device. We present a method to coat PDMS channels with a glass-like layer using sol-gel chemistry. This coating greatly increases chemical resistance of the cha...
متن کاملFluorescent optical fiber sensors for cell viability monitoring.
A new simple method for non-invasive cell culture viability monitoring based on vital fluorescent stains is introduced, and its efficiency for long-term experiments on cells is demonstrated. In contrast to common methods for cell viability control, which are usually either destructive (like flow-type counters or dead cells coloring and counting), or hardly quantitative like fluorescent microsco...

Polymer optical fiber (POF) sensors based on the Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (OTDR) technique provide the unique ability to measure high strain up to 40 % fully distributed along the fiber. Standard PMMA POF are introduced and evaluated in potential use and applicability. The advances in distributed POF strain sensor technology are concluded with respect to application in structural healt...
متن کاملOptical Fiber Sensors for Aircraft Structural Health Monitoring
Aircraft structures require periodic and scheduled inspection and maintenance operations due to their special operating conditions and the principles of design employed to develop them. Therefore, structural health monitoring has a great potential to reduce the costs related to these operations. Optical fiber sensors applied to the monitoring of aircraft structures provide some advantages over ...
